AlphaAqua 5 stage Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration system produces one of the purest forms of water available, removing 99% of all contaminants, leaving behind only water molecules.These RO systems are normally used for household use for drinking and cooking, but are also used in hospitals, laboratories, the marine industry and industries where the purest of water is required.

AlphaAqua 5 stage Reverse Osmosis system has a multi (3 filter) pre-filtration which then passes through a membrane that rejects all contaminants including bacteria, and finally passing through a post polishing filter. The purified water is stored in a pressurized tank so that pure water is always available.

These systems produce a relatively small amount of ultra pure water (from 150 liters per day) due to their high rejection percentage of dissolved contaminants found in water, in comparison to normal filters.For household use the RO system is installed under the sink and supplies pure water via a separate goose neck tap usually mounted on the kitchen top convenient to the sink.

Details of Filters

The 1st stage is a carbon Block filter which is designed to serve several functions. This cartridge contains powdered activated carbon and in addition to chlorine reduction and odour improvement it reduces fine sediment particles down to 10 micron.

The second filter is a KDF/Carbon Filter containing a granular zinc copper alloy (KDF55). This medium removes impurities from water by exchanging electrons with them in a redox (oxidation/reduction) reaction. In addition to chlorine, this highly efficient, long lasting, recyclable medium also controls micro organisims and removes heavy soluble metals. The KDF55 medium is separated by a filter pad within the cartridge from coconut shell based granular activated carbon which is highly effective at reducing certain organic chemicals such as EDB, TCE, and THM`s in addition to reducing chlorine. A fine pre and post filter screen is incorporated to reduce carbon fines and other suspended particles. However, flushing of these cartridges are necessary to remove any remaining carbon fines. Cartridges are engineered to allow water to enter one end and pass through the entire bed of KDF/carbon before exiting through the other end, ensuring maximum absorption. The use of the KDF55 medium ahead of the granular activated carbon in this cartridge removes more than 95% of the chlorine in your water before it reaches the carbon. This preserves the carbon's capacity, freeing the carbon to remove organic contaminants more efficiently and extending the carbon's service life up to 15 times.

The third filter is made of 100% pure food grade polypropylene fibers that have been carefully spun together using heat rather than a resin bonding to form a true gradient density from outer to inner surfaces. The coreless strength of the cartridge is achieved by sintering the many fibers into a solid matrix. Designed for purity, these cartridges are primarily used to filter out particles of dirt sand and rust down to a size of 1 micron.

The membrane will last between 2 and 5 years.Ideally, the water should be tested periodically with a TDS (totally dissolved solids) Meter.This will determine the condition of the filters. The TDS meter can be ordered from Healthmakers.It is important to replace the first three filters every 12 months to prolong the life of the membrane.The final post filter can be replaced every 2 years.
